Roll and back brush is discussed as one application method to consider when spraying is not practical. Demonstrates using rollers to efficiently deliver material to be brushed out, increasing ease of application, and offering improved efficiency over brushing alone. The principles demonstrated can be applied to a variety of projects.

For most  projects, we prefer a hog or ox-hair brush for our oil based wood finishes, and a top quality Wooster Synthetic for water based finishes and most paint. For production you can use a roller to deliver the material (eliminates a lot of dips of the brush). This technique can be applied to any finishing project with the proper selection of roller and brush for each specific project.

Material being applied will determine the cover required. For thin materials the Red Feather does a great job. The red cover will put material on a little thinner than the white, and is less bubble prone. The Pro-Dooz 3/8 will deliver more material to the surface, but will sometimes require backbrushing, just applying light dragging pressure with the brush to even out and eliminate any possible bubbles or applicator marks after rolling a section.

These tools are an absolute must when working with acrylic enamels, and other water based finishes, due to their quick drying nature.
