3 Steps for Optimum
Performance of DEFY Wood Care Products
The first step is to either clean or strip the wood.
For aged uncoated decks, or decks where finish is highly worn off, proceed with Defy Cleaner.
If the structure is newly built let the wood weather 3-6
months to allow moisture to dry out before beginning the
cleaning and staining process. For best results, test with a moisture meter, and clean and coat as soon as wood is dry.
If the existing stain or sealer is highly deteriorated, the Defy Cleaner can be evaluated for effectiveness. In some cases, stripper may be needed for areas where existing coating is intact.
If the wood has an existing solid color or multiple
coats of semi-transparent stain, proceed to the section
on stripping the wood.

Directions for Use
DEFY Wood Cleaner is an oxygenated
bleach that is highly effective at removing dirt, grime,
mold, mildew, algae, and even weathered graying and worn
semi-transparent stains from both vertical and horizontal
surfaces. Even new wood needs cleaning to remove mill scale,
making the surface more porous to easily absorb product.
To clean, dissolve 6 ounces (3/4
cup) of DEFY Wood Cleaner in each gallon of warm water (2.25
lb container should be added to 5 gallons of warm water).
One gallon of cleaner will clean approximately 100-200 square
feet. Stir thoroughly until powder is dissolved (about 5-10
minutes). Once it’s dissolved the cleaner will be
active for approximately 6 hours. Before applying, wet the
surface to prevent dry wood from absorbing the cleaner.
Apply the cleaner by moping or spraying on the surfaces.
Allow the cleaner to work for approximately 10 minutes,
keeping the surface wet with cleaner. Then scrub with a
stiff nylon brush. Apply a second time, again allowing at
least 10 minutes for product to work. Scrub, then rinse
thoroughly.
